Pumps for Pulp & Paper

Robust pumps for pulp and paper manufacturing including stock pumping, coating, and chemical delivery.

Industry Overview

The pulp and paper industry uses pumps throughout the production process, from pulp stock handling to chemical processing, coating application, and wastewater treatment. Pumps in this industry must handle fibrous stock, abrasive fillers, and corrosive chemicals reliably.

Key Challenges

  • Handling of fibrous pulp stock and fillers
  • Corrosive chemical processing (bleaching, recovery)
  • High consistency stock pumping
  • Continuous operation in demanding mill environments
  • Wear resistance from abrasive coatings and fillers

Our Solutions

China Industrial Pump Network offers chemical process pumps, slurry pumps, vertical sump pumps, and forced circulation pumps for pulp and paper applications. Our pumps feature wear-resistant materials, non-clog impeller designs, and robust construction for reliable mill operation.

Pump Selection for Pulp & Paper

Pulp and paper pumps handle fibrous stock, corrosive chemicals, and high-consistency slurries. Selection focuses on abrasion resistance, non-clogging impellers, and material compatibility with bleaching chemicals.

Stock Consistency

Low consistency (below 4%): centrifugal stock pumps. Medium (4-8%): special stock pumps with large passages. High consistency (above 8%): positive displacement or medium-consistency pumps with fluidizing devices.

Fiber Handling

Use non-clogging impellers with large ball passages. Avoid tight clearances that can trap fibers. Specify semi-open or open impellers for stock service. Consider recessed impeller for high fiber content.

Chemical Compatibility

Bleaching chemicals (chlorine dioxide, hydrogen peroxide, sodium hypochlorite) require titanium, Hastelloy, or PTFE-lined pumps. Black liquor (high pH, high temp) needs duplex or 316SS with high-temp seals.

Abrasion & Wear

Fillers (calcium carbonate, kaolin clay) and coatings cause abrasion. Use high-chrome iron or ceramic-coated wetted parts. Lower speeds extend wear life. Plan for regular impeller and volute replacement.

Sealing for Stock

Packing with grease flush is common for stock pumps. Mechanical seals for cleaner filtrate and chemical service. Expeller seals for abrasive stock. Always provide clean gland water.

Energy Efficiency

Pulp mills are energy-intensive; select high-efficiency pumps and premium motors. Use VFDs for variable production rates. Consider pump system optimization to reduce overall energy consumption.
