Pumps for Mining & Mineral Processing

Wear-resistant slurry and dewatering pumps for mining, mineral processing, and aggregate operations.

Industry Overview

The mining and mineral processing industry relies on pumps to transport abrasive slurries, tailings, and process water. Pump wear and reliability directly impact production efficiency and operating costs in this demanding sector.

Key Challenges

  • Handling of highly abrasive slurries and solids
  • Corrosive mine water and process chemicals
  • High solid content and large particle sizes
  • Continuous operation in remote and harsh environments
  • Low total cost of ownership requirements

Our Solutions

China Industrial Pump Network offers heavy-duty slurry pumps, vertical slurry sump pumps, mortar pumps, and submersible dewatering pumps designed specifically for mining applications. Our slurry pumps feature high-chrome alloy wet parts or rubber linings for maximum wear resistance and extended service life.

Pump Selection for Mining & Mineral Processing

Mining and mineral processing pumps handle highly abrasive slurries with high solid concentrations. Selection focuses on wear life, material hardness, and total cost of ownership rather than initial purchase price.

Slurry Properties

Determine solids concentration (% by weight), specific gravity, particle size distribution (D50, D85, max), and particle shape. Settling vs non-settling slurry classification affects pump type and speed.

Wear Material Selection

High-chrome white iron (25-28% Cr, 55-65 HRC) for coarse abrasive slurry. Natural rubber for fine particles (below 200 microns) and corrosion. Polyurethane for moderate abrasion with flexibility.

Critical Velocity

Maintain pipeline velocity above critical deposition velocity (typically 1.5-3 m/s) to prevent solids settling. Calculate based on particle size, density, and pipe diameter. Oversizing piping reduces velocity.

Pump Speed & Impeller

Lower impeller tip speed reduces wear. Use 900-1200 RPM for abrasive service. Large diameter impellers with thick vanes. Avoid closed impellers for high solids; use open or semi-open designs.

Seal & Gland Service

Expeller seals for slurry pumps (no packing water needed). Packing with grease flush for moderate service. Mechanical seals only for clean supernatant. Always provide gland flush water for packing.

Maintenance Strategy

Plan for regular wear part replacement (impeller, liner, throatbush) every 3,000-8,000 hours. Use condition monitoring (vibration, temperature) to schedule overhauls. Maintain critical spares inventory.
